Real Madrid hijack Man Utd deal to sign £80m target

West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has reportedly entered discussions over a move to Real Madrid, putting the Spanish giants ahead of Manchester United in the race for his signature.

Fernandes is expected to depart West Ham during the current transfer window after the club dropped out of the Premier League.

Despite the setback, the midfielder remains a highly sought-after talent heading into the upcoming campaign.

Manchester United have already opened talks regarding a potential transfer, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the 21-year-old closely.

West Ham are believed to have placed an £80 million valuation on Fernandes, having signed him from Southampton for an initial £38 million, with an additional £4 million included in performance-related bonuses last year.

As reported by AS, Jose Mourinho has identified Fernandes as one of his ‘priorities’ since taking charge of Real Madrid once again. The report claims Mourinho has ‘complete confidence’ in the midfielder’s ability to make an instant impact at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is further stated that Jorge Mendes, who acts as the representative for both Mourinho and Fernandes, ‘is already working on a deal’ that would see the West Ham player move to the Spanish capital.

Mourinho is also pushing for Real Madrid to secure the services of Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who is attracting attention from both Manchester United and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, United have already reached an agreement worth £35 million to bring Brazilian midfielder Ederson to Old Trafford from Atalanta.

However, the midfielder’s switch to Manchester United is expected to be postponed after he was handed a late inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
