Watch: The moment Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark vs Ukraine game

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a worrying incident after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly match against Ukraine.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United star went down on the field at Nature Energy Park in Odense, the third-largest city in Denmark.

Video footage captured the 34-year-old grabbing his chest with both hands before collapsing in the 65th minute.

Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch as players from both sides formed a protective circle around him while treatment was administered.

In an update posted on X, the Danish Football Federation confirmed that Eriksen is “conscious and feeling well under the circumstances”. The federation also announced that the match would not continue.

This is not the first major health scare for Eriksen. During Denmark’s Euro 2020 encounter with Finland in 2021, he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and required emergency resuscitation.

Following that incident, he was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator, a device designed to help regulate potentially dangerous heart rhythms.

Providing an update through the federation, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen stated: “Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch himself.

“As I see it, the pacemaker is responding as it should. He was briefly gone, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.

“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.

“But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay.”

Neither Denmark nor Ukraine secured qualification for this year’s World Cup.

More information is expected to emerge in the coming hours as this developing story continues to unfold.
