Lionel Messi was involved in a tense exchange with the match official during Argentina’s World Cup triumph over Switzerland.
The Albiceleste secured a place in the semi-finals after edging past Switzerland 3-1 in a controversial encounter on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Although the 39-year-old failed to find the back of the net, he remained influential by providing the assist for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s opening goal in the 10th minute.
Just three minutes before the interval, the Argentine skipper was seen engaged in a heated discussion with referee Joao Pinheiro.
The exact reason behind the disagreement remains unknown, but television microphones captured part of their exchange.

Messi was heard saying: “Speak respectfully, don’t be disrespectful. Speak to me respectfully. I spoke to you respectfully.”
Switzerland were also furious with Pinheiro, 38, after Breel Embolo was dismissed only five minutes after Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye had levelled the score.
The 29-year-old striker was sent off following a VAR review, which prompted the Portuguese referee to consult the pitchside monitor over a case of mistaken identity.
Pinheiro had originally booked Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes for a challenge on Embolo, but video replays indicated that the Swiss forward had simulated the incident.
As a result, Paredes’ yellow card was rescinded, while the Rennes attacker instead received his second booking of the match and was sent off.
With Switzerland reduced to ten players, the reigning world champions took full control and booked their semi-final spot through further strikes from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez.
Messi and his teammates will now face England on Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The encounter will be the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner’s first appearance against England at international level.
Messi said: “Everything I have seen and remember [about Argentina vs. England from 1986] is from videos and images that Argentinians constantly watch and relive.
“But I think this group is used to playing football matches regardless of the opponent.
“Obviously, playing against England is special because they are a powerhouse, and matches against powerhouses are always special.
“Personally, it’s the first time I’m going to play against them. I’ve played against everyone except England, so it will be nice for that reason too.
“And we’ll experience it for what it is: A World Cup semifinal against a powerhouse, a great team, and we’ll try to arrive in the best possible shape to compete again.”
