Argentina earned a convincing 3-1 win over Switzerland to reach the World Cup semi-finals and have reportedly since made a request to FIFA ahead of their meeting with England.

According to journalist Gaston Edul, Argentina have asked FIFA for permission to wear their all-blue kit instead of their iconic blue and white striped jersey.

So far in the competition, Argentina have worn their famous striped strip in five of their six matches, the only exception coming in their group-stage win against Jordan on June 28.

During that fixture, Lionel Scaloni’s men appeared in the all-blue kit that they are now believed to have requested to wear once again against England.

Messi has been central to Argentina’s impressive run to the semi-finals as they chase a successful defence of the World Cup title they lifted in Qatar in 2022.

Following Argentina’s victory over Switzerland, the Inter Miami captain reflected on the opportunity to face England in a World Cup semi-final for the first time in his career.

Messi also discussed the long-standing rivalry between the two nations, making particular mention of the unforgettable 1986 World Cup quarter-final.

“Everything I have seen and remember [about Argentina vs. England from 1986] is from videos and images that Argentinians constantly watch and relive,” Messi said in an interview with ESPN Argentina. “But I think this group is used to playing football matches regardless of the opponent.

“Obviously, playing against England is special because they are a powerhouse, and matches against powerhouses are always special.

“Personally, it’s the first time I’m going to play against them. I’ve played against everyone except England, so it will be nice for that reason too.

“And we’ll experience it for what it is: a World Cup semi-final against a powerhouse, a great team, and we’ll try to arrive in the best possible shape to compete again.”
