The 2026/27 Premier League season got off to a spectacular start, with Matchweek 1 delivering plenty of drama, surprises and, most importantly, some outstanding goals.

From thunderous long-range efforts to perfectly executed free-kicks and lightning-fast counter-attacks, there was no shortage of contenders for goal of the weekend. Here are seven of the finest strikes from an action-packed opening round.

7. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – Everton

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall wasted no time making his mark as Everton began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The midfielder raced onto a clever setup from Harrison Armstrong before unleashing an unstoppable rocket that flew beyond the goalkeeper.

Nilson Angulo produced one of the most technically impressive finishes of the opening weekend with a stunning free-kick.

The Sunderland attacker stepped up and delivered a magnificent effort, curling the ball over the wall and into the top corner with pinpoint accuracy.

It was a strike that showcased both his confidence and quality from a dead-ball situation.

5. Anthony Elanga – Newcastle United

Anthony Elanga demonstrated exactly why his pace can be such a dangerous weapon in transition during Newcastle United’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The Swedish forward exploded into space on the counter-attack, using his acceleration to split the Liverpool defence before keeping his composure to fire home.

It was a devastating example of how quickly Newcastle could turn defence into attack at St James’ Park.

4. Kai Havertz – Arsenal

Kai Havertz opened the scoring for Arsenal with a finish that owed as much to the team’s slick build-up as it did to his composure in front of goal.

After a beautifully constructed move, Riccardo Calafiori supplied a pass that was effectively served on a “silver platter”, leaving Havertz with the perfect opportunity to apply the finishing touch.

The Dutch forward ghosted between the defenders before finding a pocket of space inside the penalty area. Once the opportunity opened up, Gakpo wasted no time, cracking the ball into the net to restore parity.

His movement and clinical finish summed up the quality Liverpool can possess in the final third. The eventual 2-2 draw at St James’ Park was one of the weekend’s most entertaining games.

2. João Pedro – Chelsea

If there was one goal that immediately grabbed the headlines, it was João Pedro’s extraordinary opener against Fulham.

The Chelsea striker needed just 31 seconds to find the net at Craven Cottage, racing onto Cole Palmer’s pass before producing a superb finish over the goalkeeper.

The strike was more than just a dream start for João Pedro and new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso. It set a new record for the fastest goal scored on the opening matchday of a Premier League season.

Chelsea eventually secured a dramatic 3-2 victory, with João Pedro also contributing an assist as Alonso began his Premier League reign with three points.

1. Emersonn – Ipswich Town

Emersonn capped Ipswich Town’s return to the Premier League with a memorable debut goal against Sunderland.

The move began with a phenomenal driving run from Julio Enciso, who powered forward and helped create the opening for Emersonn.

The Brazilian then smashed the ball home to announce himself on the Premier League stage in style.

Ipswich went on to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory, with Jack Clarke scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute.
