WATCH: Moment Carrick apologises to Man Utd away end after Como thrashing

An embarrassed Michael Carrick was spotted apologising to furious Manchester United supporters after their humiliating defeat to Como.

The 45-year-old Red Devils boss is now fighting to save his job following a crushing 4-1 loss to the Italian outfit.

Angry fans were seen leaving the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia well before the final whistle as United’s disastrous season hit another new low.

However, Carrick still walked towards the travelling supporters after his side had endured the painful defeat.

The United manager, who was handed a two-year contract after securing Champions League qualification last season, was seen raising his hands in an apologetic gesture.

He also applauded the fans who remained in the stands until the end despite witnessing the heavy loss.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes launched a scathing assessment of the tactics employed by the Old Trafford club’s manager during a fiery post-match interview.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the United captain said: “It’s a decision from the staff to not press man-to-man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball by waiting for them.

“But sometimes, when you give space to these teams, they get confidence.”

Asked whether Carrick had made the wrong tactical decisions, Fernandes responded: “That’s on the manager and staff to see, not me.

“Sometimes you have to be more brave under pressure, take the risk of pressing high and making them uncomfortable.”

United’s nightmare began just two minutes into the match when Nico Paz found the net with a curling effort, before the situation deteriorated further in the second half.

Paz scored again, while Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon also got on the scoresheet to compound the misery of the three-time Champions League winners.

Substitute Joshua Zirkzee managed to score a late consolation goal during stoppage time, but it did little to soften the embarrassment of United’s defeat.

Carrick, meanwhile, acknowledged that he must accept responsibility for his team’s disappointing display.

He said: “I 100 per cent take responsibility for the overall team and the performance.

“That’s where it stops. It stops with me and I’m absolutely fine with that. I accept that totally.

“But as a supporter of this football club for so long, to see a performance like that is unacceptable, I have to say.”
