Watch: ‘Angry’ Liverpool fans confront Jeremy Jacquet in street after Fulham draw

Jeremy Jacquet was approached by Liverpool supporters as he departed Anfield after Saturday’s goalless draw with Fulham, with footage of the exchange now circulating online.

The 21-year-old centre-back, who made the move to Liverpool from Rennes during the summer, was seen stepping out of his car to engage with the fans.

Journalist Keefe Irwin recorded the incident and claimed Jacquet ‘received abuse’ from supporters because he did not stop for children. After a short exchange, the defender returned to his vehicle.

However, several people were quick to stress that stopping in the middle of traffic to take photos or sign items for fans could have put Jacquet in a dangerous situation.

A number of Liverpool supporters came to the Frenchman’s defence, with one fan stating: “There is a time and a place and it’s not there.”

Another added: “You want him to stop there and potentially get a talking to by police. It’s a dangerous place to stop.”

Jacquet’s performance on the field was a different story, as he was arguably Liverpool’s standout player during the draw.

He produced an excellent goalline clearance to spare Alisson after the goalkeeper’s poor pass fell to Ryan Gravenberch.

The defender earned an impressive 8.5 rating from Sofascore, recording five recoveries and two clearances among his notable statistics. He also came out on top in all five of his aerial contests.

Iraola made three alterations to the Liverpool side that defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 during the week, bringing in Kostas Tsimikas, Ryan Gravenberch and Victor Munoz for Milos Kerkez, Alexis Mac Allister and Rio Ngumoha.

Liverpool’s lack of depth at full-back has also emerged as one of the key talking points.

Ronald Araujo was deployed at right-back for a third consecutive match, but his limitations in attacking areas were exposed on several occasions.

Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas was substituted at half-time following an underwhelming opening 45 minutes.

Iraola, however, attributed the disappointing result against Fulham primarily to Liverpool’s inability to create enough attacking opportunities.

“I think what was lacking was quite clear,” he said post-match. “I think it’s the first game since I’m here that we’ve had problems to create chances to score goals, to make the difference offensively.

“That’s the main reason that we couldn’t create as many chances as we wanted. We haven’t scored a goal and that’s why we go with just one point.”
