Bryan Mbeumo was branded responsible for producing the “sitter of the season” after somehow failing to convert a golden chance from just a few yards against Ipswich.
The Manchester United attacker found himself presented with a huge opportunity following Marcus Rashford‘s cross.

However, he somehow managed to hit the crossbar from TWO YARDS out, with the ball striking his knee before flying onto the woodwork and leaving supporters stunned.
The game was level at 1-1 at the time, and even Mbeumo seemed unable to believe what had happened given how difficult it appeared to miss.
One fan wrote on X: “Mbeumo with the miss of the season… goodness.”

Another added: “Thats miss of the season from Mbeumo right there. Wont be topped.”
A third said: “Mbuemo sitter, how did he miss that.”
And a fourth asked: “How has he not scored?!”
Some supporters went as far as describing it as “one of the worst misses I’ve ever seen in Premier League history.”
Fortunately for Mbeumo, United managed to find the breakthrough elsewhere, with Harry Maguire‘s deflected strike putting them 2-1 ahead just moments later.
Bruno Fernandes then converted from the penalty spot for his second goal of the match before completing his hat-trick with a simple close-range finish.
Mbeumo managed to make amends by setting up Fernandes’ third goal after his own effort was blocked.
His afternoon improved further when he finally put the glaring miss behind him, scoring United’s fifth goal during their second-half surge as the Red Devils cruised to a 5-2 victory.
The former Brentford winger joined United for £63million last summer.
He scored 12 goals during his debut campaign, helping Michael Carrick‘s side secure a third-place finish.
His move to Old Trafford followed an outstanding 2024-25 season at Brentford, where he found the net 20 times in 42 appearances.
