Man Utd make decision on sacking Michael Carrick as Antonio Conte truths revealed

Despite the result, there is currently no concern within United over Carrick’s position. Club sources have told TEAMtalk that there has been no contact with possible managerial replacements, despite reports in Italy suggesting Antonio Conte could be considered.

TEAMtalk reported last week that Carrick was not under immediate threat of losing his job, and sources have reaffirmed that position over the weekend, with the club continuing to support the former United midfielder.

United have made a challenging start to the season, recording just one Premier League win so far before entering the international break after Cunha’s late goal rescued a 1-1 draw against Fulham.

The result leaves them down in 12th place after five matches.

Inside the club, the draw was regarded as an important result, particularly given the need to avoid another defeat amid the pressure generated by their difficult opening to the campaign.

Carrick has also been forced to contend with issues beyond his direct responsibility. Ongoing fan protests and increasing uncertainty surrounding highly rated youngster JJ Gabriel have created further challenges for the club.

The United hierarchy remain aware that much of the unrest surrounding the club falls outside Carrick’s remit, and there is currently no desire to make a reactionary change in the dugout.

That position has also been maintained following reports from Italy claiming Conte had emerged as a possible replacement.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that neither Conte nor any other potential managerial candidate has been contacted by anyone at United, with no approach having been made to the Italian.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea manager is currently without a club after leaving Napoli during the summer. He is understood to be waiting for an opportunity he believes is suitable before determining his next career move.

Sources close to Conte have also told us that the 56-year-old is waiting for the “right project”, although they declined to say whether he would prefer to continue working in Italy, return to England or pursue an opportunity elsewhere.

Conte’s availability has naturally generated speculation, particularly as several of Italy’s biggest clubs have struggled to make convincing starts to the new campaign.

AC Milan, Juventus and Atalanta have all endured disappointing beginnings, with Conte linked with potential returns to Turin and Bergamo, where he has previously managed.

Milan, who appointed Ruben Amorim during the summer, could arguably be the only major Italian club Conte has not yet managed during his distinguished career.
