Real Madrid were denied a stunning late equaliser against Real Betis after Carlos Espi’s spectacular overhead kick was ruled out by VAR during Friday evening’s La Liga clash at La Cartuja Stadium.

Five minutes later, the young forward appeared to produce a moment of magic when he connected brilliantly with a Vinicius Junior cross and fired an acrobatic effort into the back of the net.
The goal sparked celebrations among the Real Madrid players, who believed Espi had rescued a point for Los Blancos after a frustrating evening in Andalusia.
However, those celebrations were quickly cut short when the video officials intervened to review the build-up.

VAR eventually identified an offside offence at the beginning of the move, leading to the spectacular effort being disallowed.
New footage has now emerged showing the crucial moment and offering a clearer explanation of why Espi’s goal could not stand.
Real Madrid had dominated possession and created several opportunities throughout the match, but it was Real Betis who found the breakthrough in the 81st minute.
Troy Parrott produced the decisive moment, striking against the run of play to put the hosts in front.
Los Blancos pushed desperately for an equaliser in the closing stages and thought they had found it through Espi, only for VAR to intervene.
