Cole Palmer’s instant response when asked about playing at Old Trafford

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has previously addressed the idea of featuring at Old Trafford amid ongoing speculation linking him with a potential switch to Manchester United.

According to a report published by The Guardian last week, Palmer is said to be “homesick” and “pondering a return to Manchester” in the summer of 2026, with United viewed as a more realistic option than a reunion with his boyhood club, Manchester City.

Meanwhile, The Sun also suggested that the 23-year-old is not “enjoying life down south” and “misses” his Manchester-based friends.

Since completing a move from City to Chelsea for a reported initial £40 million fee, Palmer has established himself as a crucial figure at Stamford Bridge.

The England international has registered 48 goals across 110 appearances and has already added the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup to his honours with the west London side.

Palmer has also previously revealed that he was a United supporter growing up and cited Wayne Rooney as his footballing hero.

He said to Sky Sports:
“When I do go back to the stadium [Old Trafford] it’s good because I used to go and watch matches there.

“Obviously I supported United and he was probably the best player when I was watching them.”

Ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League clash with Napoli on Wednesday night, head coach Liam Rosenior was quizzed on the speculation surrounding Palmer’s long-term future.

He said: “It’s simple, Cole’s an incredible player. The guy sitting next to me [Moises Caicedo], I’ve seen many players in the group [who are incredible]. I’m not surprised at the timing. A new manager comes in and all of a sudden there’s people unsettled. It’s not true. Cole’s here, he’s very happy and I can’t wait to see him back on the pitch.

“There’s no reason for assurance. It’s so unrealistic. It’s come from nowhere. There’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have the conversation. That’s where I’m at. Cole is very happy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him. Our thoughts are on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him. He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player. You can’t stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth. There’s no point in having a discussion about it.”
